ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County firefighters are battling a blaze at an apartment complex under construction in Rockville.

County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says when firefighters arrived at the Gables Upper Rock apartments early Tuesday, they found heavy fire coming from the upper floors of the four-to-five story building.

He says the 150-unit apartment building was nearly complete, but no one was living there yet and there were no injuries.

After about two hours, Piringer says the fire is under control, but still burning with flames and smoke visible from nearby Interstate 270.

Several roads are closed in the area, including Shady Grove Road, which is closed between Gaither Road and I-270.

Piringer says the cause is still unknown, but investigators are on the scene.
