Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid officially moved to bring the Syria war debate to the chamber floor Monday afternoon, and said there will be an early test vote on Wednesday.
“The Senate will give this matter the serious attention that it deserves,” Mr. Reid said.
The Nevada Democrat also said President Obama will come to the Capitol to talk to Democrats to make his case, and a similar invitation has been extended to Senate Republicans.
The resolution Mr. Reid is bringing to the floor would give Mr. Obama a 90-day window to conduct strikes against the Syrian regime, but would specifically prohibit deploying combat troops to the nation.
Still, the resolution includes language that would push the Obama administration to try to aid the rebels fighting the Syrian regime — a clause that could make the resolution unpalatable to lawmakers who want the most limited of retaliatory strikes against Syria.
