A 22-year-old man who made a video to admit he killed someone during a drunken-driving accident — a video that has since gone viral with more than a million viewers — was indicted Monday for aggravated vehicular homicide.
A Franklin County, Ohio, grand jury indicted Matthew Cordle for aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol for an incident that allegedly took place more than two months ago, CNN reported.
Mr. Cordle made a YouTube video in which he talked about how he went out with friends, drank alcohol, then lost control while driving home, ultimately hitting a Jeep driven by 61-year-old Vincent Canzani.
He said, in the video: “My name is Matthew Cordle and on June 22nd, 2013, I hit and killed Vincent Canzani.” He’s then seen signing a statement of admission in the video. He also said: “I’m begging you, please don’t drink and drive.”
Some gave thumbs up for Mr. Cordle’s bravery; others, thumbs down for what they termed a stunt.
Either way, he has been arrested and faces up to 8½ years in prison if convicted. He is due to be arraigned on Tuesday.
