Eighteen people — including 12 children — were hurt when they fell from a carnival swing ride at a Sunday festival in Norwalk, Conn.

The ride lost power and threw the victims from their seats, The New York Times reported.

Norwalk Police Department officials reported on Facebook that most of the victims only suffered minor injuries and were treated at the carnival. But several children were sent to nearby hospitals. Two of the children had what doctors described as serious injuries, including an 8-year-old boy, The Times said. All, however, were expected to live.

Police said the swing ride lost power, “causing the children on the ride to forcefully fall to the ground.”

Oyster Festival officials with the Norwalk Seaport Association who sponsor the event each year said in a statement that “we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities.”
