Liberal talk radio station goes busts in Buffalo, replaced by ESPN programming

A talk radio station in Buffalo that was home to some of the most liberal voices in politics has shuttered suddenly, and been replaced by ESPN.

Entercom Liberal Talk 1520 WWKB Buffalo changed format completely “to sports utilizing programming from ESPN Radio,” using ESPN Radio feed only, Breitbart reported.

That’s a sudden departure from its previous format that effectively silences in the listening community the likes of Bill Press, Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes, some of America’s most notable liberal pundits.

Entercom Buffalo Operations Manager Tim Wenger would only say that “Buffalo is a passionate sports town and the appetite for sports programming on the radio keeps growing,” Breitbart reported.

But liberal talk radio doesn’t have a lot of historic wins.

In 2007, Air America – the touted liberal broadcast endeavor that was supposed to unseat conservative giant Rush Limbaugh – declared bankruptcy. As The Huffington Post reminded, that was right after the 2004 upstart bounced a $360,749 paycheck to star host, Al Franken.
