OPINION:
The current debate taking place in Congress over Syria is proof positive that there are in fact multiple universes.
One universe contains as a spokesman for the president’s “red line” initiative a secretary of state who has spent a career demeaning every use of the military, as well as accusing our military of terrorizing women and children. John F. Kerry demonstrates a confusion of purpose, often being in favor of something before being against it, then again being for it when dealing with the difficult issues of foreign policy and the use of the military.
This alternate universe also contains a president who, in the past, uniformly opposed and condemned the United States whenever he felt it necessary to exercise leadership in world affairs — and particularly when the use of the military has been involved. In this universe, the president and his administration actually think they have credibility in calling for military action in Syria less than a year after their red line was crossed, and they were unwilling to act when four Americans were killed in Benghazi, Libya.
In the real universe, most of us are terrified that those in the alternative universe are in charge.
