Stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle said his show in Connecticut on Aug. 29 didn’t go over so well because “young, white alcoholics” heckled him to the point that he wished North Korea — should it ever unleash a bomb on America — would hit the Hartford venue.
“I don’t want anything bad to happen to the United States,” the black comedian said, TMZ reported, “but if North Korea ever drops a nuclear bomb on this country, I swear to God I hope it lands in Hartford, Connecticut.”
He made the comments while performing Wednesday evening in Chicago — where the audience was far more receptive to his humor than, apparently, in Hartford.
He called the Hartford crowd “evil,” after several in the audience shouted at him during his stage performance, and said he wanted “to pull a reverse Kramer and call them all [expletive for whites] or something like that.”
His reference to Kramer was to a 2006 video that surfaced of Michael Richards — the comedian who played the popular character Kramer on the long-running “Seinfeld” show — on stage, unleashing an N-word filled rant during a Laugh Factory performance.
Mr. Chappelle also told the Chicago audience that Hartford had been lucky to see him “freak out” during his performance there a few days ago, likening it to the October 2003 “[expletive] tiger show the night Siegfried and Roy got their throats bit out by the tiger. You don’t go to see somebody be safe.”
