A Washington man upset at his looming divorce is accused of shooting up his 4-year-old son with heroin and other drugs and then doing the same to himself in what police are characterizing as an attempted murder-suicide.
The man, Eric Lehtinen, was found in his house by his wife when she went to retrieve their 4-year-old son. The man and the boy were both unconscious, and the boy still had a needle in his heart, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.
The divorce was supposed to be final that day, the paper reported.
Police say neither the man nor the boy could be revived immediately. But the man, 37, ultimately regain consciousness at the hospital and was discharged, police said. He’s been been charged with attempted murder, jailed and given a $3 million bond, the media report said.
The boy is still in the hospital, and his long-term diagnosis isn’t clear, doctors said.
Police say they found him with puncture marks on his neck and lower body, and that he’d been injected with several drugs: In addition to heroin, medical experts found traces of morphine, codeine, ketamine and other drugs in his system.
