Michael Adebolajo, 28, and Michael Adebowale, 22, the two men who were arrested for hacking to death a British soldier as he walked down London streets in broad daylight, pleaded not guilty in court on Friday.
One of the suspects in the apparent Islamist terrorist attack was even captured on video with bloody hands after the incident, waving a blood-stained knife, Reuters reported.
The attack that left off-duty soldier Lee Rigby dead in the streets occurred on May 22. The suspects are accused of running him over with their car and then hacking him several times — while several horrified witnesses watched.
The two suspects were subsequently shot by police and placed under arrest and heavy guard at a nearby hospital.
The men made an appearance via videolink at Old Bailey court in London and denied murdering Mr. Rigby, The Associated Press reported. They also pleaded not guilty to attempted murder of a police officer and conspiracy to murder a police officer.
Mr. Rigby’s widow, Rebecca, broke into tears after the not-guilty pleas were entered. A postmortem examination of Mr. Rigby listed his cause of death as “multiple incised wounds,” Reuters reported.
