The U.S. State Department responded to the Nairobi mall attack that left dozens dead with a renewed terror warning for U.S. citizens at overseas destinations.
The new “worldwide caution” was issued on Wednesday, The Times of Israel reported. Specifically, the State Department warned about travel to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Officials also told Americans to be alert to a variety of types of attacks — from suicide bombings to assassinations to kidnappings and hijackings.
Some possible targets, The Times of Israel reported: Sporting events, residential communities, business districts, places of worship, schools, hotels and motels, and shopping plazas — pretty much anywhere a tourist might travel.
So far, State Department officials are only issuing a warning, without taking additional action.
In August, the U.S. temporarily shut 19 of its diplomatic posts and embassies in 16 countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, due to a terrorist threat.
