An explosion rocked a Hilton hotel in the Tumon area of Guam on Thursday night, leading to several injuries and the evacuation of hundreds of guests.
The Guam Fire Department reported that three injured people were taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital, but police and the hospital could only confirm one person had been admitted, the Pacific Daily News reported.
The report determined the blast hit near the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa’s outdoor koi pond by the Tree Bar. Authorities haven’t yet determined the cause of the explosion.
FBI and Department of Homeland Security officials were on scene at 9:40 p.m. local time (7:40 a.m. EDT). The first 911 call was received at 8:40 p.m., the Pacific Daily News reported.
Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo issued a statement sending prayers to the victims.
“I am concerned about the explosion that occurred late Thursday night at the Hilton Hotel in Tumon. I extend my thoughts and prayers to the two individuals who were injured during this incident,” she said.
“I appreciate the efforts of federal officials who are on-scene providing assistance to local authorities. I also appreciate the efforts of our first responders who were on the scene immediately following the incident. As we await further details on the cause of this explosion, I will continue to work with federal officials to ensure appropriate federal resources are brought to bear during this investigation,” Mrs. Bordallo said.
