Israel wasn’t impressed with the so-called charm offensive launched by Iran’s newest president at the U.N. General Assembly conference this week, preparing for the historic New York meeting with a solid social media mocking that took pot shots at Hasan Rouhani.
Israeli officials created and posted a fake LinkedIn page on Iran’s official Washington embassy website, The New York Post reported.
The message, a spoof of Mr. Rouhani’s self-description, read: “I’m a career politician, expert public relations professional, leading international salesman and longtime advocate of nuclear proliferation.” The statement is posted beneath a smiling face shot of the new president.
The fake message also said: “Since my election as president of Iran in 2013, I developed and have executed an unprecedented PR campaign for the government of Iran. Through a series of statements, tweets, op-eds and smiles I have rebranded the human-rights suppressing, Ayatollah-led regime as moderate and a source of hope among the international community.”
The mock website also puts the president’s skills as “engaging public speaker,” “deceptive trade practices” and “weapons of mass destruction.”
The page was activated on Tuesday, before Mr. Rouhani was set to speak.
