Fifteen thousand people who live in the western region of India have been forced to flee massive floods on Wednesday that have closed off roads and railways and swept away untold numbers of structures.
At least two people have died from the flooding, authorities reported to The Associated Press.
The heavy rainfall has hit hardest at the state of Gujarat, causing the rivers to rise and flood into streets. But several nearby districts are suffering. Schools in Bharuch, Vadodara and Surat were closed on Wednesday. And fire rescue teams and emergency responders swarmed the area, looking for victims to lead to safety.
The water is thigh-deep in parts, AP reported.
One sidebar problem: Animal activists in Vadodara say they’ve found several crocodiles stranded in the muddy roads and courtyards.
