A noted legal rights activist in China has gone missing, and her colleagues and supporters say it’s no coincidence her disappearance follows a recent interrogation session with police.
Cao Shunli has been missing since Sept. 14, BBC reported.
She was attempting to fly out of China to Switzerland for a human rights training course offered by the International Service for Human Rights, when airport security forces barred her from boarding.
They took her behind closed doors for questioning — and she’s not been heard from or seen since, BBC reported.
Ms. Cao has been a strong and loud voice for those who contribute to reports about China’s human rights record.
Human Rights Watch reported that Ms. Cao had been heading to the convention with other associates, but she was the only one who was detained — and who has mysteriously disappeared.
Ms. Cao has already served several years in China’s labor camps for previous activism against the nation’s human rights abuses.
