A 2-year-old Colton, Calif., boy died from injuries suffered in a horrific home attack by as many as five dogs, all believed to be pit bull mixed breeds, police said Tuesday.

The attack took place about 5:30 p.m. Monday inside the boy’s home, The Associated Press reported. Officers received a telephone emergency call about a dog attack and discovered the boy with massive injuries on his upper torso.

He was transported to a nearby hospital and later died, AP reported.

Colton Police Department officials said animal control officers then removed five dogs from the house, all of which were pit bulls or at least part pit bull.

The boy’s name has not been released, and police are actively seeking witnesses or information about what started the attack.
