BOSTON (AP) - With almost two weeks between the time they clinched the AL East title and their first playoff game, the Boston Red Sox could spend the time tweaking their pitching rotation or nursing their injured players back to health.

Instead, they’re going for it.

The Red Sox say they want to finish with the best record in the AL, a prize that has more value this year than in the past. The top division winner will get to face a wild-card team that won’t get the chance to line up its pitchers or rest.

The Red Sox were off on Monday after taking two of three from Toronto and clinching the division. Boston entered Monday with a 1 1/2-game lead over Oakland and a 3 1/2-game lead over Detroit in the race to be the top division winner in the AL.
