Several media outlets have reported that three of the gunmen who are terrorizing a Kenya mall are American.

CNN said in a tweet: “Three of alleged attackers at Nairobi mall are from U.S., according to sources within terror group Al-Shabab.”

Al-Shabab is an affiliate of al Qaeda, headquartered in Somalia. The group has claimed responsibility for the attack — which has left dozens dead and more than 175 injured — on a Twitter post on Saturday.

CNN said in a later tweet: “CNN has learned from sources that two of the Kenya mall attackers are from Minnesota and one from Missouri.”

A State Department officials confirmed to The Blaze that they’re investigating that claim.

CNN reported that two other attackers hail from Somalia, and one each from Canada, Finland, Kenya and the United Kingdom.
