Pope Francis told his Catholic Church faithful in a Monday Mass that they ought to control their tongues and stop gossiping — it’s very nearly akin to murder.
He made the remarks at a Mass in Rome’s Santa Marta church, United Press International reported.
“Those in a community who talk about brothers, members of the community, they want to kill,” he said, Italy’s news agency, ANSA, reported. “Where there is God, there is no hate, envy or jealousy. Nor are there those who want to kill with gossip.”
The pope has similarly warned about the evils of gossiping in previous sermons.
In May, he told his flock: “All three — disinformation, defamation and slander — are sins. This is sin. It is to slap Jesus in the person of his children, his brothers,” Catholic News Agency reported.
