A “civil war” in the Republican caucus has lead to chaos, confusion and little getting done in Washington, Rep. Steve Israel, New York Democrat, said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”
“The problem with Washington right now is that the polarization is not Democrats versus Republicans, it’s Republicans versus Republicans,” he said.
Mr. Israel was speaking about House Speaker John Boehner’s plan to vote on a continuing resolution that will also defund Obamacare, risking a government shutdown when the Ohio Republican’s plan does not pass the Democrat-led Senate.
“This is not a speaker who has shown us an ability to compromise, to advance reasonable common-sense solutions,” Mr. Israel said.
To fix the problem, Mr. Israel said that either one side of the Republicans needs to win what he calls a “civil war,” or the Democrats need to take back control of the House in the next election cycle.
