President Obama on Sunday will attend a memorial service for the victims of Monday’s shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, the White House announced Wednesday.
The time and location, as well as exactly what the service will entail, aren’t yet clear.
“The president will mourn the loss of these innocent victims and share in the nation’s pain in the aftermath of another senseless mass shooting,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.
Twelve people were killed and others wounded when Aaron Alexis, 34, a former Navy reservist and current government contractor, entered Navy Yard with valid credentials and went on a shooting spree on Monday morning.
Alexis, who has a history of mental illness and multiple gun-related arrests, was shot and killed by law enforcement.
