Police on Friday identified a “person of interest” in the apparent shooting of three teenagers and their 22-year-old driver, their bodies abandoned in their car at a rural spot in Tennessee.
Authorities say they’ve taken into custody Jacob Allen Bennett, 26, and detained him in the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office while investigators continue to collect evidence, the local WBIR reported. He’s been arrested on an unrelated and unspecified charge, and is also being questioned in what police are now calling a quadruple homicide, authorities with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.
The bodies of the four victims were discovered Thursday on Renegade Mountain, 65 miles outside Knoxville, by a passer-bay, CNN reported.
Their names: Danielle Jacobson, 22, the driver; Steven Presley, 17; Dominic Davis, 17; and John Lajeunesse, 16.
The medical examiner’s office is performing autopsies on the victims.
Residents, meanwhile, are shocked.
“We’ve had little problems but nothing major. Nothing like this,” said resident Cynthia Benson, to the local WATE TV. “[It’s] sad, scary.”
