Lance Armstrong sent out a Twitter message on Thursday that he’s given back his 2000 Olympic bronze medal, as requested by International Olympic Committee heads earlier this year.
The disgraced cyclist wrote: “The 2000 bronze is back in possession” of U.S. Olympic officials, and he included a photograph of the medal on his Twitter site.
Patrick Sandusky, a spokesman with the committee, confirmed receipt and said the U.S. Olympic Committee “has made arrangements to return the medal to the IOC,” CNN reported.
The IOC stripped Mr. Armstrong of his Sydney medal a few months ago, shortly after the cyclist admitted during a January interview with Oprah Winfrey to doping over the course of his years-long career.
Since, Mr. Armstrong has also lost his seven Tour de France titles, and several key charity and business endorsements and roles.
