Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid bemoaned what he called the takeover of Congress by a radical force with nothing but disdain for government, during blunt remarks from the Senate floor.
The context for his Thursday comments was the inability of Democrats to pass an energy efficiency measure — a failure he blamed on the tea party wing of the Republican Party, United Press International reported.
“We’re diverted totally from what this bill is about,” he said. “Why? Because the anarchists have taken over. They’ve taken over the House, and now they’ve taken over the Senate.”
He continued, UPI reported: “People who don’t believe in government — and that’s what the tea party is all about — are winning, and that’s a shame.”
Mr. Reid suggested that Republicans had tied up Senate time by tacking on several amendments to bills that demanded immediate attention, including one from Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to delay the individual mandate aspect of Obamacare by a year.
