Flash flooding brought on by heavy rains in Boulder, Colo., has left one person dead, sent dozens packing and washed away numerous homes and buildings.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to The Associated Press that one was dead, but declined to give additional details. But Boulder Emergency Management officials said in the Denver Post that the person was killed in Jamestown due to a building that collapsed.
A mandatory evacuation was issued for several counties — Jefferson, in the northwest, and Boulder, as well as Jamestown and the Fourmile region. The National Weather Service said that some Jamestown area homes had collapsed in the heavy rain, the Denver Post reported.
Meanwhile, the Boulder local newspaper, the Daily Camera, reported that students at the University of Colorado had been told to leave campus and find safer settings to ride out the flood.
Mudslides and rockslides are also becoming a problem in some areas, AP reported.
