With every new provocative dance comes a new set of angry parents, and Miley Cyrus’ “twerking” craze is no exception.
Frances Hena of Bakersfield, Calif., was appalled to found out that her 11-year-old daughter Jamie went against her wishes and twerked at a school dance, a local ABC affiliate reported.
As a humiliating form of punishment for any 11-year-old, Jamie was forced to spend two hours Monday afternoon at a busy intersection holding a sign that read, “I was disrespecting my parents by twerking at a school dance.”
“I want her to realize that she is just a child and that she can’t do that,” Francis Hena told KERO.
“When she’s 18, she can do whatever she wants. As of right now, that’s not something she’s going to be doing,” she told ABC News. “I haven’t heard anything from the school still, and it’s just ridiculous to think that’s okay at a school dance. I’m also not sure my daughter realizes how seriously I take this.”
Twerking has seen a recent surge in popularity due to Miley Cyrus’ recent music video, “We Can’t Stop,” and her risque performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.
