German authorities said on Tuesday that they’ve seized a bomb and several model airplanes that were going to be used by neo-Nazis to take out their political enemies.
A man, 23, with ties to the far-right extremist movement, was arrested after police said he was going to order fellow neo-Nazis to detonate the bomb, BBC reported. His name was not released, but police said he previously threw fireworks at neo-Nazi opponents at a recent rally.
The bomb would have seriously injured or killed anyone within 50 feet of its detonation point, police in the southwestern city of Freiburg said.
Authorities estimate neo-Nazis are to blame for at least 800 violent crimes in the nation each year.
On an anonymous tip last week, police raided a house where four suspected neo-Nazis were meeting and discovered the “functional” flying bomb, BBC reported.
“They want to use it against left-wing or anti-Nazi activists,” a spokesman for the Freiburg prosecutor’s office told The Associated Press.
