Director Woody Allen has pulled his latest film, “Blue Jasmine,” from India because the country’s laws require an anti-smoking ad every time a character appears on screen smoking a cigarette.

The film, starring Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin, was due for release in India this month.

A representative for Woody Allen and Indian distributor PVR Pictures confirmed the move was due to the anti-smoking advertising requirement, CNN reported.

“We have to abide by the law of the land. It’s fine,” Deepak Sharma, PVR chief operating officer, told CNN.
