President Obama reached out to a handful of prominent conservative journalists, meeting with them in a closed-door, off-the-record gathering to discuss executive plans and policies likely related to the government shutdown.
According to Politico, Mr. Obama met Tuesday with The Washington Post’s Charles Krauthammer, Wall Street Journal editorial page editor Paul Gigot, National Review’s Washington editor Robert Costa, syndicated columnist and former CNN host Kathleen Parker and Washington Examiner columnist Byron York.
This isn’t the first time Mr. Obama has met with conservative writers under such circumstances, Breitbart reported. A few months ago, he held what was characterized as a “deep background” meeting with conservative reporters to discuss developments in the Benghazi scandal. Last month, he did the same to discuss White House strategy on Syria.
