Easy come, easy go. A Powerball winner in Indiana missed out on a $1 million jackpot after the deadline to claim the prize came and went, and the unknown person failed to turn in the ticket.
“It is rare, but not unheard of, that a prize of such magnitude goes unclaimed,” said Indiana Lottery spokeswoman Stephanie McFarland, in CNN.
The ticket was sold in April, and Indiana gives a 180-day deadline for winners to claim their prize. That deadline ended Monday — and so did the winner’s chance to cash in. That means the money will go to state coffers instead.
In 2002, another Hoosier missed out on a significantly larger draw for failing to turn in the winning ticket — a $50 million jackpot.
