Apparently, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has softened her stance on aide Huma Abedin, relenting on a weeks-ago pledge to cut her loose from her assistant role — as well as any future White House campaign run — if she didn’t dump her scandal-plagued and failed-mayoral-bidding husband, Anthony Weiner.
Now the new line is: We’ll support you regardless, the New York Post reported.
A source said to the paper: “Hillary is horrified by Weiner and thinks that he is an embarrassment to his accomplished wife. She wants Huma to leave him behind. But Huma is torn between her family and loyalty to Hillary.”
But if Mrs. Abedin chooses to stay with Mr. Weiner, Mrs. Clinton now vows she will be “looked after” and given a comfortable career position — albeit without all the bells and whistles of her current high-profile assistant role. Still, the news isn’t confirmed by the Clinton camp.
A representative for Mrs. Clinton denied that change of heart, calling the report “totally false,” the New York Post said.
Other reports say that Mrs. Abedin is on the cusp of leaving Mr. Weiner, but she did appear by his side at his campaign send-off party last week at the restaurant Almond.
