Justice Antonin Scalia uses ‘Seinfeld’ to forget ‘nasty’ D.C. atmosphere

Republicans and Democrats have gotten themselves into quite a fix and have fueled an atmosphere in the nation’s capital that can only be described as “nasty,” said Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in a just-released interview with New York magazine.

“It’s a nasty time. It’s a nasty time,” he said in the interview. “When I was first in Washington, and even in my early years on this court, I used to go to a lot of dinner parties at which there were people from both sides. Democrats, Republicans. Katharine Graham used to have dinner parties that really were quite representative of Washington. It doesn’t happen anymore.”

So what’s a poor jurist to do to escape the vicious atmosphere? Justice Scalia says he watches some TV.

Television favorites, such as “The Sopranos,” “Mad Men” and even a little “Duck Dynasty.” But his favorite, by and far: “Seinfeld.”

He said, as Politico reported: “I loved ’Seinfeld.’ In fact, I got some CDs of ’Seinfeld.’ ’Seinfeld’ was hilarious. Oh, boy. The Nazi soup kitchen? ’No soup for you.’”

Justice Scalia said he “watched on episode of — what is it? ’Duck Dynasty’? I don’t watch it regularly, but I’m a hunter. I use duck calls. … So many people said, ’Oh, it’s a great show,’ that I thought I’d better look at it.”
