Edward Snowden has hung up his hat as a National Security Agency leaker and taken on a new role working for a private website in Russia, the country that’s sheltering him from U.S. capture and prosecution.
“Edward starts work in November,” his attorney told Russian news, BBC reported. His attorney didn’t disclose which website was Mr. Snowden’s new employer.
But the head of VKontakte, a social media site that’s trying to take on Facebook, offered him a position earlier this year via a very public and well-reported statement. The company founder, Pavel Durov, said he had invited Mr. Snowden to work on data security and protection out of the firm’s St. Petersburg offices, BBC reported.
Mr. Snowden fled the United States after leaking information about the NSA and its spy work — some of which still is reverberating around the world. Russia granted him asylum, and he’s largely kept a low profile for security reasons.
