Former Vice President Dick Cheney didn’t hold back Thursday when asked about the president’s handling of the situation in Syria: It’s a total bungle, he said.

And not just Mr. Obama — that goes for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s actions, too, he said, Politico reported.

“I think the incompetence of this administration in the way they’ve handled these kinds of affairs, especially in the Middle East, is one of the worst aspects of this presidency,” Mr. Cheney said, on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show. “If you’re a friend and ally of the United States in that part of the world tonight, you’d have to say what’s this guy all about? Can we count on anything he’s told us?”

Meanwhile, he said, Politico reported: “Our adversaries out there no longer fear us.”

Mr. Cheney also mentioned the U.S. handling of Benghazi, Libya — pointing a finger in particular at Mrs. Clinton.

“She clearly wasn’t hands on and now she doesn’t want to be hands on. And she’s doing everything she can to avoid responsibility for what clearly fell into her bailiwick,” Mr. Cheney said. “I think the Benghazi thing is one of the great — it’s not just an embarrassment, it’s a tragedy, because we lost four people that night. And what always recall is her testimony saying, ’What difference does it make?’ And the fact of the matter is it makes a huge difference.”

Mr. Cheney is on a book tour for a work he co-authored with his cardiologist.
