Billionaire financier George Soros has signed on to be a co-chair of the national finance council for Ready for Hillary, the super PAC created to help Hillary Rodham Clinton win the presidency in 2016, should she choose to run.

Mr. Soros is the first big name with big money to throw his hat in with Mrs. Clinton, and the move, announced Thursday, could attract other big-name donors, USA Today reported.

“George Soros is delighted to join more than one million Americans in supporting Ready for Hillary,” Michael Vachon, Mr. Soros’ political director, said in a statement. “His support for Ready for Hillary is an extension of his long-held belief in the power of grassroots organizing.”

Each member commits to contribute or raise at least $25,000 for the super PAC. The council meets Nov. 12 in New York City, the report said.

Super PACs can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money, but Ready for Hillary has capped donations at $25,000. From January through June of this year, 24 people have contributed the maximum $25,000, USA Today said.

Mrs. Clinton, a former secretary of state, has not yet announced if she plans to run, but she’s been giving speeches nationwide since resigning and is also writing a book.

“It’s not about pressuring her,” the super PAC’s executive director, Adam Parkhomenko, said, according to The Washington Post. “It’s giving her the time to make the decision, knowing that there’s an operation out there of grassroots supporters who are organizing.”
