Bill Daley, a former White House chief of staff, said Thursday that the National Security Council worker who lost his job over negative tweets about the Obama administration should seek psychological counseling.
“It’s a new world we’re in,” Mr. Daley said during a “CBS This Morning” segment with host Norah O’Donnell, before which he was introduced as the network’s newest contributor. “He needs a psychiatrist, not another Twitter account.”
His reference was to a senior NSC staffer, Jofi Joseph, who lost his job for Twitter posts that criticized former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and other senior administration officials. He sent the tweets over a period of two years in an anonymous Twitter account, using the pseudonym @natsecwonk, United Press International reported.
Mr. Joseph, 40, has since apologized.
“It has been a privilege to serve in this administration and I deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me,” he said in an email to Politico.
