Wal-Mart shoppers at one Florida site just outside Orlando were shocked to see a 6-foot-long alligator wander into the parking lot right up to the front door of the store and then pause for several seconds, as if mulling entry.

The gator actually stood right at the entryway to the store early Sunday morning, causing the doors to automatically open and close several times until a worker was able to lock them, The Associated Press reported.

Police officers tried to draw the beast from the store front, local WKMG reported. Meanwhile, some shoppers hurried away while others stood and gawked from a respectful distance and snapped photos on their cellphones, AP said.

The alligator finally wandered off and disappeared into nearby woods. Officers then searched but couldn’t find it.
