CNN host Piers Morgan found a silver lining amid the government shutdown this week, saying it’s “excellent” that fewer gun permits will be issued as a result.

“One of the only positives I’ve heard so far was what you suggested to me maybe the case in the break, which is that actually gun permits, new gun permits, may be delayed as part of all this,” he said Tuesday night. “So this may be without them realizing it, the tea partyers, may have literally shot themselves in the foot.”

Mr. Morgan’s colleague Christine Romans pointed out that “when you shut down the government, you slow down or stop the work of the government. And the government does a lot of things like issue gun permits.”

“Excellent,” Mr. Morgan replied. “Well, that’s excellent, good news.”
