OPINION:
On Oct. 16, Congress passed a debt bill that President Obama signed, staving off the threatened Treasury default and sending furloughed employees back to work (“Back in business: Obamacare undented as shutdown ends, debt default avoided,” Web, Oct. 17). Many politicians and news outlets had their own interpretation of what happened and many clueless voters have been kept in the dark throughout America. These voters were led to believe varied false narratives from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Mr. Obama’s ideology requires socialized medicine, big-government spending and total government control of society. Mr. Obama has conducted legal wars against the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the private sector and the free-market economy.
The Constitution mandates that debt increases for big spending adventures have to be approved by the House of Representatives. This has created a stumbling block for the president, which he has chosen to eliminate by transferring the authority to conduct budget increases and ever more spending and borrowing to himself and the Executive Branch. He is overthrowing the government when he shuts down the government, threatens Treasury default, inflicts pain on people, bullies military veterans and has Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid throw all 14 bills passed by the House of Representatives into a garbage can.
Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah have called the debt bill “terrible” because it does not listen to the American people, it allows more deficits and more spending and provides no relief from Obamacare, a disastrous train wreck. People are getting massive insurance-premium increases, losing their health insurance and being changed from full-time to part-time employees. The president and Congress, along with Big Business, are exempt from the health care law, while the people feel the full brunt and terrible consequences of it.
Mr. Obama’s power grab from the House could have been stopped, but the victory lies in the fact that the American people have been awakened to the truth of Obamacare and the ideology of this president.
