A political action committee upset at the media coverage of last weekend’s Million Vet March on the World War II Memorial in downtown D.C. penned an open letter to CNN, calling the station’s coverage dismissive, degrading and blind to the veteran cause.
“In your feeble and failed attempt to mute the national enthusiasm for the Vet March, you reported the event as a ’tea party like rally,’” Special Operations Speaks PAC wrote on its website.
But that was hardly the case, the group said. The event, which drew hundreds and was replicated at various military sites around the nation, was a specific event to honor the military and insist politicians on Capitol Hill don’t own the monuments that commemorate troop contributions.
The group, which was formed to push constitutional causes and restore transparency and accountability in government, said labeling the rally as a tea party event is an offense and reveals a political agenda to downplay any negative feedback against President Obama’s failure to prevent the government shutdown.
“If your editors must label this group, we insist that you label us ’Vet Marchers,’” the letter said. “Labeling the Million Vet March as a ’tea party like rally’ because some tea partiers showed up with yellow ’Don’t Tread on Me’ flags … doesn’t mean it was a ’tea party like rally.’ If one follows that logic, one might state that because some of CNN’s executives, editors and reporters lean so far to the left, that CNN is a ’Communist-like News Network.’ That would not be a fair assessment, would it?”
