OPINION:
In his recent hourlong, rambling news conference, President Obama continued to blame Republicans, the Tea Party and House Speaker John A. Boehner for not giving him everything he wants. Apparently, only when the opposition has met all of his demands without compromise will he be willing to talk to them. Unfortunately, our president is not being truthful, and he breaks his promises.
Mr. Obama mentioned one party holding things up, yet he allowed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to exclude Republicans for two years. He said he is willing to talk, but before Obamacare was passed he asked Republicans to meet with him because he wanted to listen to their ideas. He used that occasion to criticize them and went after Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, and told Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, that he had won and Mr. McCain had lost.
On the 2011 debt-ceiling crisis, Mr. Obama agreed to a deal with Mr. Boehner and Mr. Reid and then changed his mind, which led to the sequestration. Mr. Obama wants an up-or-down vote by the House on the continuing resolution, and to pass a budget, yet the Democrats did not pass a budget for four years, and Mr. Reid refused to allow House-passed bills to be debated during that time. Let there be no doubt: Mr. Obama is the decision maker for the House and Senate Democrats, and he is not interested in compromise.
Republicans should be united and gain the support of the people by making them aware of these issues. The liberal media can no longer serve as the Obama Department of Propaganda. They also need to serve the people.
