A 43-year-old American woman taking a tour through Myanmar was injured by a bomb that went off just as she was checking into her luxury hotel room in Rangoon late Monday.
Police said Tuesday three men are in custody, but declined to release additional details, the Daily Mail reported.
The bomb was connected to a bathroom clock in a ninth-floor room at the five-star Traders Hotel and set to detonate on the next guest’s arrival, authorities said.
The device exploded just before midnight as the woman and her family checked in. The blast was so powerful it ripped bathroom objects from the wall, blew a closet door off its hinges and shattered the room’s windows, emergency responders said.
The woman, who has not been named, was hospitalized with thigh and hand wounds, but officials said her condition is improving. Her husband and their two children, ages 5 and 7, escaped harm.
