Senate Democrats met with President Obama Thursday and later said they would consider a House Republican plan to raise the nation’s borrowing limit for six weeks.
“We are going to look at anything they send us,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, after emerging from a nearly two-hour meeting with the president at the White House.
Mr. Reid said Democrats also want to reopen the government before negotiating on other long-term budget issues, but it’s unclear what the House will send to the Senate.
“Let’s wait and see what the House does,” he said. “They do not know what they want.”
He criticized House Republicans for legislating “hour by hour.”
House Republican lawmakers are meeting with Mr. Obama later Thursday, and Senate Republicans will come to the White House Friday morning.
