A 76-foot Norway spruce, the chosen Christmas tree from a Connecticut grower to grace Rockefeller Center, headed to midtown Manhattan on Friday.
This is the second time in six years that the same Connecticut city, Shelton, was selected to send the tree for the famous holiday display, The Associated Press reported. The tree was due for transport by tractor-trailer, a 70-mile road trip.
It is being erected Friday morning — a decades-old tradition for Rockefeller Center, which has displayed Christmas trees since 1931.
Shelton’s Mayor Mark Lauretti said providing the tree was a massive honor. Shelton dubs itself “the best affordable suburb in Connecticut,” he said, in the AP report.
