A Republican lawmaker told his Florida constituents at a town hall meeting in his district this week that moves are afoot by the GOP on Capitol Hill to impeach Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. for the Fast and Furious debacle that left a border patrol agent — and hundreds of Mexican civilians and innocents — dead.
“It’s to get him out of office — impeachment,” said Rep. Ted S. Yoho, Breitbart reported. “It will probably be when we get back in [Washington]. It will be before the end of the year. This will go to the speaker and the speaker will decide if it comes up or not.”
The Ocala-Star Banner reported that Mr. Yoho is planning to band together with other key Republicans and broach House Speaker John A. Boehner with the idea soon. And Mr. Yoho’s chief of staff said to the local newspaper that the resolution they propose will mention Operation Fast and Furious.
“Obviously, there is a lot of frustration with the attorney general,” said Kat Cammack, the chief of staff, as Breitbart reported. “You can name the botched programs. Fast and Furious has been one of the Number One complaints we get in our office and why no one has been held accountable.”
Under the operation, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — under the Department of Justice’s oversight — allowed several “straw purchases” of guns in the United States to wind back into Mexico. The stated purpose was to track the guns and root out wanted criminals, but instead, the guns were used in the commission of several crimes.
U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed by one of those weapons, as were hundreds of Mexican citizens, Breitbart said.
