Noted conservative commentator, legal mind and author Mark R. Levin issued a scathing assessment of the Virginia gubernatorial race, putting the blame for Republican Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II’s loss squarely on the shoulders of party elites.
On his website, MarkLevinShow.com, he posted all in capital letters, as The Blaze first reported: ’We could have won this race. For the reasons I have explained here and on the air, GOP establishment and donors left the field. Now, not only the liberals but the RINO mouthpieces continue with their mantra about the dead tea party and the RINO future. Absolutely appalling!”
The contest was close, with Democrat — and Bill and Hillary Clinton friend — Terry McAuliffe winning by 2 percentage points in later-night tallies. Libertarian candidate Robert Sravis claimed a little more than 6 percent of votes.
Mr. Levin also said on Wednesday — referring to a link on his site that was titled “GOP Gives Up Virginia to Democrats Instead of Giving Tea Party and Social Conservatives a Win” — that the “sober reality [was] beginning to sink in.”
Mr. Levin — a prolific writer, lawyer, Landmark Legal Foundation president and former chief of staff for Attorney General Ed Meese — was born in Pennsylvania but lives and works in Virginia.
