Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who’s accused of smoking crack cocaine, said he’s sorry for his mistakes, but he’s not resigning, despite the fact police have said they have a video that could show him using the illegal drug.
“Friends, I’m the first one to admit I am not perfect,” said Mr. Ford, CNN reported. “I have made mistakes. I have made mistakes, and all I can do right now is apologize for the mistakes.” He also said he’s sorry that he’s done “a lot of stupid things” in his past, but that he only wants to move on with his life.
“I want to move forward,” he said to Toronto radio station CFRB. “But I also know to move forward, I have to make changes in my life, which I can assure you that I will do. I love the work I do, and I’m going to keep doing it.”
Police announced last week that they have a video and were able to extract images of the mayor. They did not say whether the images showed the mayor smoking crack cocaine, but two journalists who swear they’ve seen the video allege that Mr. Ford is shown in the act. Toronto Police Chief William Blair also said that the video had images that were “consistent with those that have previously been reported in the press,” CNN reported.
Mr. Ford, for his part, first denied the existence of the video. After police confirmed they have it, he then denied smoking crack.
No charges have been filed against Mr. Ford. But one of his friends was arrested on a charge related to marijuana.
