A 19-year-old New York University student who was wedged in the walls separating two buildings for two days is recovering, but in serious condition at a nearby hospital, authorities said Monday.
The victim, Asher Vongtau, was pulled from between a five-story parking garage and a 17-story New York University dormitory, The Associated Press reported.
Rescuers had to break into a concrete wall to save the student. He was wedged in an area that was only inches wide, and it took emergency responders 90 minutes to save him, AP said.
Fire department officials said they still weren’t sure how the student got wedged. The only way to get into the spot was from a roof of one of the buildings, AP reported.
