House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi launched a defense of President Obama this weekend, telling Sunday talk-show hosts that she can’t understand why Mitt Romney would accuse the leader of dishonesty because he’s such a man of vision.
Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, made the remarks in response to Mr. Romney’s “Meet the Press” appearance, during which he accused Mr. Obama of breaking a key vow — that all those who wanted to keep their health care plans could.
“I don’t even know why Romney was on that show myself,” she said in her own appearance on MSNBC. “I want to know, what about the future? What about the future. But the fact is that President Obama is a president of great vision, of great knowledge, of great judgment.”
The Associated Press says at least 3.5 million people have received cancellation notices from their insurance companies. Mrs. Pelosi spoke to that figure but said Obamacare, for most, was still a “godsend,” The Hill reported.
“For 95 percent of the American people who have health insurance, that is the case,” Mrs. Pelosi said. “For the small number in the private market, they will do better.” And for those with pre-existing conditions, Mrs. Pelosi said, as The Hill reported: Obamacare is a “godsend, emphasis on the God.”
She also maintained that the 2014 elections would not be negatively affected by the poor enrollment process.
“I don’t even think of it as a political issue,” she said, The Hill reported. “But for the American people this will be a giant plus.”
