A Kuwaiti woman was arrested in Saudi Arabia over the weekend for trying to drive her father to a hospital, as female activists continue to protest the kingdom’s driving ban.
The woman was driving with her father in an area just across the border when she was pulled over, the English-language Kuwait Times reported.
The woman, who said her diabetic father needed to be taken to hospital for treatment, is being held in custody pending an investigation, Reuters reported.
Kuwaiti women are free to drive, vote and stand for political office in their country, enjoying far more freedoms than their counterparts in Saudi Arabia, who cannot travel abroad, open a bank account or work without permission from a male family member, the report said.
