Emergency workers in one Missouri town were working feverishly on Friday to contain the flames of a massive gas pipeline explosion that occurred in the early morning hours.

Nobody was reported injured in the blast, which hit an area just outside Hughesville, about 1 a.m., NBC reported.

But the glow from the flames could be seen for miles. KOMU tweeted that a spokesman for the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline company said that the source of the blast was a “30 inch natural gas pipeline outside a compressor station that ruptured and exploded.”

Hughesville is home to a “few hundred,” said Capt. Donald Sattler, of the Sedalia Fire Department, in the NBC report.
